ADAGIO
As you read, please play the video. This piece was my inspiration while writing the article.
Healing is a slow process where change should be perceived as a relaxing piece of music, exactly like "Adagio", a magical sound that conquers not only your mind but all of your senses.
Sitting in the same cafe, listening to what my heart demands, I came to realize that change is not always an easy pattern; change is an extreme transformation that your mind will hardly accept, that your habits will savagely fight, and that your heart will profoundly deny.
Change is the will to prove to yourself that you deserve more and can have better; it is the ultimate recognition that you are ready to move on, that this time life has lost the chance to interfere; it is the declaration you make to the world that you are the supreme ruler of yourself.
But how to walk out of the path that you have carefully chosen and made, a familiar circuit that you come to walk every day?
As easy as words can be spelled, turning them into actions is another tricky game with undefined rules; a game where you are not only the player but the opponent too. Competing against yourself is the most difficult combat you'll ever have to be a part of, as you know your fears and your limits, but also your strengths and your true power. Facing yourself in a closed field, where you are divided, tormented, and constantly torn apart could either be a living hell or your only way to “ecdysis”, crawl out of that old skin of yours, and be reborn again.
To go through this tough process, patience is your only ally, determination is your strongest weapon, while fear and anxiety could prove themselves to be the terrible enemy. The fear of going out of your comfort zone to face the unknown, and to break a routine thoroughly settled for years.
With every new experience, the thrilling challenge of adaptation is easily corrupted. So, like a new music player, fill your heart with passion, find the right instrument, make it your extension, compose the perfect symphony, and practice without resilience until you and your muse make one. Close your eyes and let yourself be filled with the vibrations of the unlimited excitement. To every note falsely played, starve the victory of its mastery. Like a newborn, laugh at your stumbles, enjoy every fall, celebrate each step, and worship your scars.
Live through your memories, hold on to your dear ones, the ones that empower your decisions like a shield of flesh that protects you from your evil side, use their unconditional love, and let them force your laughter and joy. Surrender to their devotion, wrap yourself with their care, and always remember that a loved one is never alone nor forgotten.
Go Adagio on yourself, and like that piece of music played on a proud cello, execute every movement carefully, and give it all your attention, practice your sheet continuously until exercising becomes just another daily habit, learn from your mistakes, and be proud of every note well played. Don't be afraid of scratching your hands as the strings engrave their prints, connecting with you until you become one.
Go Adagio on the ones cherishing your music, standing by your side, present at every performance, screaming your name, and applauding every success or failure because, in concertos as in life, only the glory shared with the public matters.
Yours, Meryem.
