Mythology has always been, for me, a very interesting field to dig into whenever I am feeling bored or inspired to write an essay or simply develop an idea. While sacredly doing so, I came across the story of the princess Semele of Thebes, which eventually led me to her affair with Zeus, and then to the tragedy behind Hera’s jealousy causing her death. A classical turn of events in a mythological story. But what caught my eyes while reading a book, is a French idiom that if translated to English becomes :

“To think oneself sprung from Jupiter’s thigh”

And as a true Gemini, I couldn’t go back to whatever activity I was involved in, a moment before being bamboozled, until resolving the enigma. So if you know someone or you are yourself arrogant, imperious, pompous, and my personal favorite, smug, well my friend “Do you think yourself sprung from Jupiter’s thigh?”. In other words, do you think yourself divine, and to be more precise are you Dionysos who after the death of his still pregnant mother, was recovered by his father Zeus aka Jupiter, then sewed up in his thigh till term, are you?

To the proudly arrogant mortals there is no better assumption to confirm the abominating truth, but if you are not and condemn this “vilain défaut” as French people would say, please feel free to use this idiom, as it can be another creative way to humble a naughty spirit, like mine.
