DID YOU KNOW : MORPHINE

Today, while innocently browsing through a book that had been sitting around for months, I had the chance to fall in love with Greek mythology all over again. This time, no story was involved, but one simple word was quite sufficient: "morphine." A drug, made from opium, used to calm people and alleviate their pain, sweeping them off their feet just like a dream.
Any guesses by now?
Yep,
it seems like Friedrich Sertürner uncovered the secret weapon used by
the Greek god of dreams, "Morpheus," the one who ruled over the realm of
sleep in Greek mythology, when he isolated morphine from opium by the
early 1800s. And to be frank, I think that Friedrich Sertürner may be a
brilliant scientist, but he is, for sure, a stunning namer too.
And
once again, I came to the conclusion that we humans may believe that we
have evolved in some ways, but deep inside, in another way, we never
did. With every discovery, every step toward the future, we hold dear to
the past, craving that truth, the unknown that was unkindly hidden from
us, leaving us wandering in tales and stories that have survived the
cruelty of time, giving us a meaning to thrive.
Meryem !
